Jesus-Centering for Christian Therapists, Physicians & ministries

Bringing Christ to the center of daily life,     Your life!

Please note:  Neither Jesus-Centered Institute nor Dialog International Press engage in providing psychotherapy or counseling.  This piece is written as Dr. Simeone-DiFrancesco’s commentary for educational purposes only.

What is Jesus-Centering?

Jesus-Centering is about encountering the real Jesus in the midst of all professional and personal life, in daily “dialogic” connection.  Whether it is medicine, psychotherapy, dentistry, architecture, finances, counseling, coaching or pastoral ministry….. It proclaims that you “live” Him as your Way, your Truth, and your Life — the universal foundation for every human heart, and with certainty, for your own. This approach integrates Scripture, discipleship, and the wisdom of the Church, calling us to a fearless witness of His love, truth, and Gospel principles. Jesus-Centering is not simply a technique, but a way of forming a new culture rooted in Christ Himself.

There are many examples of being Jesus-Centered in one’s profession.  The CMDA for example “educates, encourages, and equips Christian healthcare professionals to glorify God by following Christ, serving with excellence and compassion, caring for all people, and advancing Biblical principles impacting healthcare within the Church and throughout the world.”    Their membership includes physicians, nurses and dentists, among others.

The Catholic Medical Association (CMA) presents upholding the Principles of the Catholic Faith in the Science and Practice of Medicine, Inspiring Physicians to Imitate Jesus Christ.

The Association of Christians in Architecture, is focuses on: “Fostering relationships that encourage and empower students and practitioners to manifest the Truth.”

Jesus-Centering is an example of a personal and professional application that cuts across all sectors of one’s life and unifies them.  It is simple:  to be openly focused day by day, minute by minute on modeling Jesus in all one says and does, that His way is the priority, in contrast to empty values of personal power, possessions, and pleasure.   This means a daily connecting with Him in a dialog with Him through His Word.

Since I am a psychologist, let me mention a way that Christian therapists can use validated research-based outcome knowledge to assist their Christian clients who wish to integrate their faith with their therapy.

With spiritual/religious and cultural integration consistent with the client’s beliefs and preferences, the therapist may find it useful to:

• Bring Jesus into clinical work as the living center of healing and transformation, when this accords with the client’s faith.

• Equip therapists with practical methods for fostering authentic Connect-Talk® / Positive Christian Dialog (PCD) and spiritually integrated care that helps clients engage more fully.

• Help clients replace the seven capital sins with the seven virtues, aligning their growth with Christ.

• Deepen awareness of God’s presence through Scripture-based prayer and reverent imagery, integrated appropriately within clinical work.

• Utilize the healing presence of Jesus in trauma and micro-trauma (schema patterns) rescripting and repair.

• Connect personal healing to the larger mission of building a Christ-centered culture.

Many of these interventions may fit into the therapists’ already well honed research-based therapeutic approach and assist in selecting appropriate and ethical choices that fit their client conceptualization.

Connect-Talk® Integration is another aspect and application of Jesus-Centering

Connect-Talk® is a Jesus-centered dialog framework that teaches how to listen with the heart, communicate truth in love, and reduce defensiveness. It reflects the dialog method of Jesus Himself, as seen in the Gospel of John and the Letters of John. Connect-Talk® helps couples, families, groups, and therapists practice communication that is safe, open, and Spirit-led, extending Christ’s grace into every relationship.

    Training & Workshop Opportunities
